Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who are at least 14 years of age but have not yet reached their 21st birthday.

Some of the things our Volunteer Police Explorers do include Ride Along with Uniformed Patrol Officers, Undercover Stings dealing with alcohol and tobacco sales to minors, various community details, Youth Assistance, D.A.R.E Activities. In addition our Police Explorers will go through a number of Police Officer training classes such as accident investigation, domestic violence, officer safety, defensive tactics, firearms training, S.W.A.T. training, booking of prisoners, alcohol detection just to name a few.

If you are between the ages of 14 - 21 and wish to become a Westland Police Explorer Please fill out an application and submit it at the front desk of the Westland Police Department located at 36701 Ford Road. Please seal your application in an envelope and address it to Officer Matthew Bobby, Officer Kevin Yudt or Officer Timothy Horvath. Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted for an interview. Due to the nature of the Police Explorer Program, we will not accept anyone with a prior CRIMINAL HISTORY. Minor Traffic Violations will not disqualify an applicant; however, it will be addressed.
